One of the 14 Institutes of the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, TNO TPD aims to strengthen the competitiveness of clients by innovative applications of technology. Multi-disciplinary project teams carry out projects and, should additional expertise be required to solve clients’ problems, contact is made with other centres of knowledge, such as universities or other TNO institutes.

TNO TPD is known throughout the world for its security expertise, particularly in assessing security aspects of systems for financial, transport and telecom applications and evaluation and consultance in the field of valuable documents.

Over the last few years, TNO TPD has assessed the suitability of more than one hundred different security systems – many of which include smart card technology and/or the security architecture of the entire system.

TNO TPD is additionally involved in

• development of automatic inspection equipment for valuable documents, such as bank notes, cheques and money transfer forms,
• fraud resistance of valuable documents and security systems in general,
• biometrics, including the performance of biometric systems.
