Ascent Group Ltd has researched a new bar coded filament, currently called Codel (patent # 5,744,000), but soon to be re-named Fibertag, which may be used as an anti-counterfeiting device. It can either be directly applied to textile products or alternatively in paper or packaging.

Research has shown that film can be continuously printed with codes across its width and that this film can be divided along its length to form filaments of a much narrower width. These filaments continue to carry a reduced width version of the original code. This device is now being developed from prototype to production mode.

Flying Null (FN) is a unique remote sensing technology that can be used to provide a variety of solutions for brand protection requirements. It affords a covert and secure solution. In its simplest form it can be used as a covert authentication feature which can be "buried" within a product and/or its packaging. It can be read with a simple battery powered hand-held reader in under a fraction of a second.
